On the surface, Ella is just like any other girl wandering the halls of a Canadian High School. Although she has immigrant parents, she was raised to embrace western values. But when Ella makes the decision to wear a hijab after a life changing summer with her grandmother overseas, suddenly her religion is front and centre. Faith, fear, and acceptance are called into question, especially when Ella’s friends are forced to engage with their own assumptions, stereotypes and backgrounds. A remarkable relevant play from the pen of award winning screenwriter and playwright Mark Haroun (Heartland), this play won an Edmonton Sterling Award for Outstanding Production for Young Audiences in 2011.
Our production of Under Cover is generously supported by the Edmonton Community Foundation’s Vital Signs Program which in 2016 supports Active Play and Healthy Peer Relationships for youth.
