“This is the story of how my mom helped me find my voice.”
The smash hit of the 2019 SOUND OFF Deaf Theatre Festival, Songs My Mother Never Sung Me returns Spring 2024! See this beautiful and ground breaking show on the upcoming Western Canadian tour.
Commissioned by Concrete Theatre, Songs My Mother Never Sung Me is an extraordinary chamber opera for families about the relationship between a Deaf mom and her hearing son. With its innovative, inspiring, and inclusive approach, this bilingual piece is performed in a resonant combination of American Sign Language (ASL) and sung English. The heart of this touching and funny work is its intimate connection to playwright and composer Dave Clarke’s experience growing up as a CODA (Child of Deaf Adult). It’s a story of a boy and his mom and the diverse ways in which individuals can communicate.
